For Sustainable Agriculture: Germany signs Declaration of Intent with SEKEM

Yesterday, SEKEM signed a Declaration of Intent with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) to promote sustainable agriculture in Egypt. The Joint Declaration is built on a mutual agreement between SEKEM and BMZ, stating that “hunger, poverty and the climate change can be faced only through sustainable and equitable development.”

In the presence of the German Ambassador, Julius Georg Luy, Helmy Abouleish, SEKEMs CEO met Dr. Gerd Müller, the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, who arrived in Cairo for a short official visit. During the meeting, the two parties signed the agreement that targets fostering future ecological modernization of agriculture and disseminating agro-ecological methods in Egypt and Africa.

SEKEM was awarded with the “IMPACT Business Award” by BMZ and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ) in 2011. The Award recognizes organizations that apply innovative business solutions in combating climate change in developing and emerging economies.
