The Sekem Medical Centre offers comprehensive health care services to the rural communities.
Medical services including treatment for eye problems, skin diseases, pediatric complaints, internal ailments and infectious and endemic diseases are provided to all residents of the surrounding area. Besides providing comprehensive basic health care services the Center is also involved in education and consciousness rising concerning all aspects of public health, including environmental health awareness, women's health issues and family planning.
The prevention of infection and disease through better hygienic and sanitary practices is a primary goal of the medical center's sustainable development efforts.
The Medical Center emphasizes a humanitarian approach with a vision of the individual as the Center from which all diagnostic-therapeutic steps begin. The clinic offers modern treatment and laboratory facilities with up to date diagnostic equipment including clinical pathology laboratory, x-ray, ECG, and sonographic instruments. The surgical equipment can be extended to middle surgical capacity. Adjoining the medical center is a fully equipped pharmacy.
Outreach Programme
In the area around the SEKEM Farm people have little access to infrastructure. Medical service with modern standards was lacking at all and the patients had to travel long distances to seek for medical help. In order to reach those, who are not capable to travel to the much closer Medical Centre on the SEKEM Farm, an outreach programme is conducted through the centre´s mobile clinic. It serves a population of 15,000 people and gives access to modern health care in outlying areas. Where the need arises and attention at the clinic is required the Medical Center provides transportation for patients.
Women's Health
Special emphasis is placed on women's health issues and raising of awareness. Family planning services are active in promoting a proper understanding of family planning and the use of safe, modern contraceptive methods. Follow-up for women using contraception is also offered.
