Dear SEKEM friends,
I am pleased to announce the official approval of the “Heliopolis University for
Sustainable Development” by Mr. President, Hosni Mubarak, through the Presidential
Decree No. 298 at the 31st of August, 2009.
The vision of the Heliopolis University is to present an innovative and unique approach
to solve the pressing problems of our human communities and to contribute to sustainable
development.
The concept of the university focuses on three pillars:

Innovative
and
interactive teaching methods; fostering interdisciplinary research in national
and international consortiums; and practical learning through on-the-job training
*
A holistic personality development program complemented through a “studium fundamentale”
in each study program embracing social science, arts, languages and philosophy
*
Building a sustainable community on a university campus surrounded by a biodynamic
farm as well as an industrial hub comprising companies from various sectors
The Heliopolis University will contain the following faculties:

Organic Agriculture
*
Sustainable Engineering (Renewable Energy, Water, Mechatronics)
*
Pharmacy
*
Sustainable Business & Economics
*
Physiotherapy
*
Nursing
*
Applied Arts
*
Mass Communication
*
Social Science
We are going to open in 2011 with Bachelor degree programs in the
first 4 faculties.
I want to thank all the friends who helped establish the idea of the university
within the last 7 years and would also like to honor all the presidents of the universities
