Egypt and SEKEM celebrate Eid Al-Adha

This week, Egypt and SEKEM celebrated Eid Al-Adha, one of the two big Islamic feasts honored by the 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide. The celebration is also called the Greatest Eid or the feast of Sacrifice by some.

Early in the morning, clad in their new clothes, people head to the mosques to perform prayers with their families and friends. Those who have the financial opportunity sacrifice an animal and share the meat with their families and poor people.

Eid Al-Adha is preceded by the Day of Arafa, which marks the second day of the Muslim’s annual pilgrimage rituals at Mecca in Saudi Arabia. The Islamic pilgrimage, better known as the Hajj, is the fifth of the five pillars of Islam. Hajj however, is not obligatory for all Muslims, but only for those who are capable financially and physically to perform it.

On the occasion of Eid Al-Adha, SEKEM is giving a holiday to all its employees so they can celebrate it with their families and friends.
