Human Development for Sustainable Communities: Monthly Meetings for SEKEM Farmers

In collaboration with the Egyptian Bio-Dynamic Association (EBDA), Heliopolis University for Sustainable Development (HU) organized a workshop for 80 of SEKEMs contracted farmers that are applying Biodynamic agriculture all over Egypt. A series of upcoming monthly meetings with SEKEMs farmers emerged from the event, with the aim of boosting their engagement in SEKEMs vision.

Within this context, Helmy Abouleish, CEO of the SEKEM Group inaugurated the event by a warm welcoming speech. Besides praising the role, which the EBDA is playing in raising the awareness of SEKEM farmers towards Biodynamic agriculture methods, Helmy Abouleish emphasized on the necessity of spreading SEKEMs principles among the farmers to promote sustainable communities. This shall be fostered for instance by engaging the farmers into cultural activities such as educational courses about communication or human resources development.

The workshop was part of the BioGuard project that conducts different studies in regards to Protecting National Economic Crops via Application of Beneficial Microorganisms. Hence, new procedures and Biodynamic farming methods had been presented to SEKEM farmers by professors of the HU. The SEKEM contracted farmers were invited to attend live discussions with the experts about the latest practices for solving the problems that they face during the current agricultural season.

By the end of the event, SEKEM founder Dr. Ibrahim Abouleish emphasized on the importance of maintaining and expanding the communication within the whole SEKEM community. Accordingly, it had been managed to set up a meeting with all SEKEM farmers from all over Egypt on the first Monday of each month.
